Online Dating

With the start up of the TV show Catfish, I think it’s time for a personal story about this subject. This is a little different from my usual OOTD, but hey, why not?

I know what it’s like to have a relationship in that state of distance. It seems like everything is through texts, emails, facebook posts, whatever. Distance is always keeping you apart.

I’ve had a boyfriend solely online before. I actually forgot about this until I was watching a preview for the aforemetioned TV show, Catfish. This woman had been seeing this guy online for 10 years. I thought back to a few years ago.

Back when I was around 13, I got really into the online reality known as Habbo Hotel. (The picture below was taken from the Wikia and shows an “Adoption Room”)

My room was always filled with people, so much that I had to make a line from the door to the actual room to keep crowd control. Somehow, I ended up with a boyfriend. To do actions, since the characters weren’t really moveable, you’d put asterisks around the action you wanted to do when you chatted. *holds hands* or *kisses* was a common one. It was great knowing there was someone out there waiting for me to log online. We’d spend hours together until one day his cousin told me that he stopped going on.

But I remember spending time with him. I didn’t even know his real name. Even though I knew it wasn’t a real relationship, it was still reassuring. It gave me confidence. He was like my little online secret. Out in the real world, I knew I had him to go back to. Gosh, that was so long ago.

Anyway, online dating… it’s a game, huh?

  1. You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but
I find this matter to be really something that I think I would never understand.

It seems too complicated and very broad for me.
I am looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!
